Layer Cake Lemonade!!

Intriguing title, eh?

Fat Quarter Shop is at it again. Awhile back the peeps over there began their short cut quilts series. The first being the Jelly Roll Jam.

The second.. you guessed it! Layer Cake Lemonade!
Isn't that just the cutest name!? I think so!

I was especially excited when I was invited to participate!
The concept is to make the cutest quilts in a short period of time.

We all have those times when we need a quick gift or you learn of a new baby or just someone that needs a quilt. We probably also all have a Layer Cake or the like just laying around screaming to be used.

The finished quilt measures approximately 48" x 61". All you need is 1 layer cake with at least 40 squares, 5/8 of a yard for binding, and 3 1/4 yards for the backing!

So go grab a layer cake and the FREE pattern and lets get started!!

The free downloadable/printable pattern is very easy to follow, BUT if you are a visual learner, please check out the video Kimberly made!! Even if you can follow the paper pattern, check out the video anyway!! ;)

Want to see mine!!?? I chose Fig Tree Quilt's Honeysweet line and I heart it. A LOT!

Here is the close up of the quilting done by Darla Padilla!!  Love Love Love!!!

And of course, the wind was extra helpful when doing the photoshoot... no, that's not pinned up like that..lol!

Oh, and one more thing... the peeps at Fat Quarter Shop are not only awesome for this FREE pattern, but they are also offering 20% off all their Layer Cakes right now!!

So who wants to make one? Or eleven? ;)

Much Love!!!

Quilt Market 101

To Market, to Market, to buy a fat pig quarter bundle...

There is so much more to Market than fabric and quilts! You meet the most amazing people and have a fabulous time with your friends you already have!

This was my first Market and I thought I knew what to expect but until you go and experience it for yourself, it's really hard to explain the euphoria.  So you all will just have to go and find out for yourself :)

I did lean A LOT of things while I was at Market and I thought I'd do a quick run down here. That way if any of you are thinking about going in the Spring (its in Pittsburgh) you won't make the same mistakes I do.

Ready... here we go...

#1 -  Do NOT leave your house with out flip flops. You're favoritest comfy flip flops. You will NEED them at some point because your feet get quite the work out!!! Then also make sure you put those flip flops in the bag you carry with you on the floor. Try looking for a tutorial for hand made shoe bags to put them in. Adorbs!

#2 - Buy a super comfy pair of shoes and then bring 4 more pairs. One for each day. Don't wear the same shoes two days in a row. I can attest to giant blisters. Take my word for it.

#3 - Choose to bring a bag that has a comfortable handle/strap. Test it out. Put a good amount of weight in it, like 5 bricks, and walk around with it for a few hours. How's that shoulder? I recommend wide straps. The bag I had is great for everyday but the straps were skinny and dug into my shoulder. Owchie!

#4 - Did I mention flip flops? Oh yes I did. A HUGE shout out to Miss Rachel Griffith for lending me hers on the last day. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

#5 - Practice smiling. This sounds odd but think about smiling for 4 days straight. Those cheek muscles get a work out..hahah!

#6 - For the love of ice cream, pack light when you go. You don't need everything. I say this because when you need to come home, you WILL have fabric to take back with you. You need a place to put it. I had to ship my fabric home. Trying to patiently wait for it.... sad panda...

#7 - Don't forget your ticket. They charge you to re-print it. Guess how I know that?

#8 - Have fun!!! Sometimes we can easily forget this when it is overwhelming or we become too business like. It is business but it should also be fun. Don't be afraid to let your hair down.

#9 - Take pictures!!! Otherwise when you get home and don't have any, you'll be very disappointed. I took some but there was so much to see I kind of "forgot" to take photos. However, if you are on Instagram, look up #quiltmarket and you'll see so so much!!

#10 - Take vitamins before you go and while you are there. Maybe even amp up on vitamin C. You are around so many people, and if you fly, that's a lot of germs floating around a small environment. Ew. Not only myself, but I know a lot of others got sick too.  Take hand sanitizer and USE it. Every little bit helps. When you get back you just want to sleep. Being sick on top of that is no fun.

#11 - Bring a portable phone charger. Heather from Fiberosity brought these and they worked like a charm and they are cheap!!

I know I am probably forgetting things but these are the ones I remember the most and things I wish I had known before Market.

Despite the shortcomings, I had a blast!!! I would also do it all over again!

I'm guessing it's like having a baby. A few days later you totally forget all the pain you went through..hahaha!!

I hope someday to meet you at Market, if I haven't already!!

Those of you who I did meet, miss you already!!

Much Love!!!

Giveaway!!

We all LOVE giveaways, right?

I see all of you shaking your heads yes!

Well, the folks over at Robert Kaufman really liked my Paradox pattern and they are doing a giveaway on their blog, The Swatch and Stitch.

The best part is that they are giving away not one, but TWO fat quarter bundles of their Kona solids and 7, that is SEVEN yards of Essex yarn dyed linen in black! That is enough fabric to make the Paradox top! You will also get my Paradox pattern included. :)

Wowzers! Thank you Robert Kaufman!!

The fat quarter bundles they are giving away are similar to the ones I used. I used Sunrise and Sunset, they are giving away Sunrise (left) and Summer (right). Gorgeous!

Good Luck!!!

Pair A Ducks? NO! Paradox!

Let me first just start off by saying I am so giddy to announce this quilt.  I designed this quilt probably, oh, 3 years ago or so. The fact that it FINALLY came to life just makes me smile!

This post is a bit photo intense but I just can't help it. After all the photos I will include front and back covers for material listings. :)

Introducing.... Paradox!

You can get it here in my SHOP in PDF or in Paper form.

That's my daughter. Isn't she a ham? Love her!

These photos were all taken at a local park. This quilt is 90" x 90" so finding a good spot to take a good photo of the WHOLE thing was quite daunting. Then, I saw this bridge.

It wasn't without worry that my quilt would fall to the waters below, so after many warnings of DON'T LET GO to my daughter, we were able to get some pretty awesome photos!

Oh, it looks like the background fabric is different shades, but that is just the sun shining on it. :)

Here she is OVER the water. Thank goodness for large clamps that fit tight so it wouldn't fall! It was a very nerve wracking photo shoot! Heh!

Just a few more....

This photo makes me giggle. It was the first spot we stopped to grab a photo and clearly it was not the best spot to showcase it due to the size but I still love the detail. That star in the lower right corner, that is my favorite block in the whole quilt. :)

Ohhhh boy.  These next photos showcase the quilting.  This has a story...

I have never sent a quilt out to be quilted. Part of it was that I liked saying I completed the quilt from start to finish but truth be told, I am no expert.  I do ok but I wanted a professional look to them. So, I bucked up and contacted a quilter.

Let me tell you when I received this beauty home, I had tears. Real, honest to goodness, tears. I was so happy, delighted, and in awe.  Thank you Darla, you are awesome!!

Can you see them?

I chose owls to be quilted into this quilt because I thought it looked like stars shining in the night sky and who-who-who is out at night? Owls!

Yes.  I am a dork. =P

A bit closer....

So? What do you think? Do you love it? I know I do!

For this quilt I used all Kona Cotton solids for the stars.  I used two fat quarter bundles, Sunrise and Sunset. They play so nice together! For the background, I used Essex Yarn Dyed Linen in black. All fabric is from Robert Kaufman! I heart them.

In addition, all my patterns starting with Paradox will be in full color.  Most of my PDF's already are, but from here on out, all my paper patterns will be as well. Same price too!

I would love to hear your thoughts on this quilt!

I know the size is a bit scary, but I promise you, this quilt is easy to make. It does take some time, but it is not difficult.  I have very detailed step by step instructions for each block!

The blocks are 18" finished so if you don't want to make the entire quilt, you could make a pillow, or a baby blanket or a throw. Take the large star in the middle with the 4 corner blocks, that is 54" square. Perfect for a throw! So many options!

Enjoy Paradox!

Much Love!!!

Endeavor

Please meet my newest edition to my little family.  Endeavor.

This design was inspired by triangle graph paper. Yep. I was doodling and playing around with it one day and my eye just happened to catch the pattern if I turned my paper side ways. Zig Zag!!

I LOVE zig zag quilts and I have never seen this type out there so away I went at writing a pattern.

It really is a very simple quilt to piece.  You cut strips at 8" wide and then sub cut them into triangles.

Do you have a fabric you really want to show off? This quilt is perfect with those large triangles!

Make it color organized or make it scrappy! It will look fabulous no matter how you put it together!!

Interested?  You can find my PDF's HERE and HERE, and if you want a Paper (Pre-Order) or PDF they are also available in my SHOP. Paper copies will ship by August 23, 2013.

Here is a snapshot of the back cover for sizes and fabric requirements. Also a diagram to show either the zig zag edges or straight edges!

And just a few other photos for you...

Quilt Fabric = Waterfront Park by Violet Craft for Michael Miller

I love how the sunshine was captured in this photo!

Cover photo...

I almost used this photo on the cover because of the teepee in the back ground. :)

I hope you like her. I know I sure do!
