You see, there is this magazine that I {heart} a lot.
There is one more reason that I {{heart}} this magazine a lot....
Ready?
Um..if I pass out, please throw cold water on my face and make sure I still have a pulse, ok? ;)
Page 68. That one there on the left. In the purples and grays and red....
It's MINE!!!!
My very first magazine publication and I am SOOOO FREAKING EXCITED!!!!! You couldn't tell right? I mean, I think I hide my feelings pretty well, yes? ;)
I know it's a simple quilt but my style is simple. Usually. The thing that I adore most about this quilt is the meaning behind it.
The story behind Dare To Be Different ::: "I designed this quilt with my daughter in mind. She is 12 and being in middle school, it's so much easier to follow the crowd instead of doing your own thing. As a parent, I've always tried to teach her to follow her own path, to be a leader, to make her own choices. For the most part, she has and I am so proud of her for that. I wanted to make her a quilt that portrayed this message. One where I knew that every time she looked at it, she'd remember what I taught her and take that with her always. Hence the one red block. This one block reminds her to "Dare To Be Different". :)"
I can't wait until this quilt comes home to her. It is one that will always be treasured, not only by me, but by my daughter as well!
Here are a few shots I took before I sent her off..
Notice the "lump"? Top right corner...
Notice what that "lump" really was? (lower left corner...that would be Sunny!) LOL!
Waskawee witto wabbits!! :D
Stitch is on sale now. I got my copy at Borders or you can click HERE to purchase it from them directly.
Ok...now that I've let the cat out of the bag...or rather, out from under the quilt (heehee) I can breathe again, even though I'm still really excited and I might not come down for a spell. :D
Much Love!!!
Wow and congratulations!!! I love the colors you chose. Stitch is also a favorite of mine. I can't wait to buy my copy.

ReplyDeleteLovely quilt and the best part is the story behind it. Way to go, girl :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful message you are teaching your DD. I had a message very similar to my children. It was Don't be afraid to step away and say NO. The moment you do so, it gives everyone else the courage and opportunity to say NO along with you. They did so quite often, saved others along with themselves. Often in the face of new schools and moves. They turned out to be great young adults. I love your quilt!! Love it. It can be for a boy too using blue in place of the purple.. well any color really.. LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI love that magazine, too!! And I love your quilt! You are such an inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your publication. I love your quilts, especially this one. I taught middle schoolers for over 15 years. It is such a hard time for the kids and for the parents watching what the kids go through. I will make this quilt and remember the special message it sends. Thanks so much and good luck with middle school. I think high school is easier on the kids.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! How exciting for you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats congrats congrats!!!! Nothing like the first time seeing your creation in print like this. It'll stay with you always! I, too, try to teach my kids to follow their own path, and love that you've instilled this important lesson into your daughter's quilt. She'll treasure it forever!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Wonderful quilt that will always hold the best of memories for both you and your daughter.

ReplyDeleteHow exciting - congratulations. It's a lovely quilt with a great back story.
ReplyDeleteAlmost two years after publication, I just stumbled on the this quilt. My first thought was that I needed to make it for my 12 year old son in "boy" colors, to remind him to be himself in middle school. LOVE LOVE LOVED when I scrolled down and saw the reason you designed it!
