Help!

My dearest crafty friends, I need your help!

I have this prankish idea to play on one of my former supervisors. She is in much need of a few laughs and smiles.

You know those little trees they sell at Michael's Craft stores? They usually have the burlap wrapped around the bottom and they are not very costly?? You can decorate them yourself....

I want to hang (bare with me here....remember I said it was prankish..heehee) Doritos from them...like ornaments.

My need for help comes in because I need ideas on how to put a hold in the tops of the actual Dorito so I can hang a string on it to put on the tree. Anyone have ideas how to do this with out breaking the Dorito? I can always hot glue a hook on it but I'd rather do the hole and ribbon to make it look "pretty". Heh!

Also, is there a way to preserve it so they don't go bad? Modge Podge?? Would that work? Not sure if that can even be done but I thought it would be nice if it lasted until after Christmas was over!

I'm not crazy, promise! Just want to make someone laugh in a very sad time.

Any ideas you have are welcome!

Ready? Set? Go!

Much Love!!!

  1. Someone will have a better idea, but here's mine: Start with a pin, poke your hole, then gently scrape around in a circle until it gets bigger. I'm not a Mod Podger, but from what I've seen, it should work fine! Do post a pic. :-)

  2. Doritos won't go bad - they have a half life!!! The only thing Mod Podge would do is soak in and make them soggy. If anything I would spray them with "spray-fix" -the stuff that charcoal artists use to spray their artwork so it won't smudge -that should hold some of the cheese on without making them get soggy.

I second the hole with a pin idea -either that or lots of the little tiny clothespins - you could attach the hook or ribbon to the clothespin and then just clip the chip to it.

  3. I would suggest spraying them with something just to keep the cheese on there. Maybe just hairspray? I agree with Regina that Doritos won't go bad. I don't know how to get a hole. If you find a way, please share it. Pretty funny idea.

  4. I would try wetting a Q-tip, then holding it on the spot you want the hole - just long enough to make the spot soft. Then take a pin or even better, a large upholstery needle, and make your hole. Let the chip dry in place, and I think it will go back to being solid - maybe. If I was at home, I'd try it out for you, but I'll just let you experiment instead. And I second the artist's fixative - that should keep them nicely - or even spray lacquer or polyurethane. I will say that the little clothespins have an annoying habit of coming undone - as I found out last weekend at a wedding when I tried to fix a picture that was hanging from one! Took me half an hour to get that sucker back together!

  5. I would just glue the ribbon to it, on the front and back to form a loop at the top, then you can add a bow or other decorative thing on the front side to be pretty. I doubt the chips would go bad either.

  6. Just drill with a really tiny bit.

  7. I would let them sit out in the air and get stale before putting a hole in with a pin. The less "crunchy" they are the less breakable they will be.

  8. I would try wetting a cotton bud ( not sure what you blokes call them ) little sticks with cotton wool on the end and just hold it on one spot till it softens I just tried it and it works with cc's then spray it with hair spray a couple of coats if you want to . They won't go mouldy but they will go stale if left uncovered... Oh another idea is to get some small paperclips the coloured plastic kind cover with a bow and tie on a string so it can be hang. Cheers and good luck oh and lets see the Pics....

  9. you could wrap a ribbon kinda like a square package where you twist and go back around it then hang them and use spray polyurathane glossy of course probably couple coats because of the cheese theres my idea
    have fun!!

  10. I really like the idea of the tiny red ribbon to top it. you could always try Modge Podging one chip and seeing how that one chip looks.

  11. If it has to be the brand Doritos, this won't work... but, you could take a corn tortilla, slice it into 8 pieces, create your hole, spice them/cheese them, and then bake them...

  12. I think it might be nice to use a fine thin gold wire and wrap them like they do gems for wire wrap jewelry. It would be easy to hang them using a bit of the wire already on it. Denby
Can you stuff the bottom of the tree into an empty dip jar?

  13. You could wander Michaels looking for some pretty decorative clips to clip them with, maybe a nice burgundy would complement the orange? Just wanted to say this is a great idea!

I agree the Doritos probably don't need anything, they are pretty will preserved.

If you work on a towel or soft surface when poking the hole, it will probably reduce breakage.

  14. I think if I were doing it, I'd probably scrap using real Doritos altogether, and would try to make fake Doritos out of card stock or even clay...paint 'em up to look like the chips.

  16. Undeniably believe that which you stated. Your favorite justification
seemed to be on the web the simplest thing to be mindful of.
I say to you, I certainly get irked even as people think about concerns that they just do not know about.
You controlled to hit the nail upon the top as
neatly as outlined out the whole thing with no need side effect
, people could take a signal. Will probably be again to get more.
