Question #1

I was curious...

When you are looking to make a quilt, what draws you to a pattern?

What makes you choose one over another?

There is no wrong answer here.

Just be honest. :)

I hope everyone has had a splendid weekend!!

Much Love!!!

  1. Color choice and fabric selection - I am drawn to bright colors with high contrast!

  2. I like designs that have secondary designs that pop up when the blocks are pieced together

  3. I like designs that can be made controlled or wildly scrappy -not crazy about patterns deigned or marketed for a specific fabric line. I also like one or two block patterns that create a secondary design or more - but that go together quickly because you can chain piece many components.

  4. The cover picture. I am that shallow. If the quilt is drapped funny and I can't see the pattern I lose interest. Also, fabriic choice on the cover sways me.

  5. I tend to choose quilts that I can complete before I get tired of them! So I look for bold, exciting designs that are fairly simple to put together. As much as I love them, Bonnie Hunter mystery quilts are not for me!

  6. Sometimes, for me it is the color picture on the cover or in a magazine. I always 'want' to make the quilt exactly like that. I'm not really good at putting fabrics together so I tend to stick to that wonderfully enticing picture.

  7. It is the pattern, can I do this, what is the size and is there small pieces? The larger the pieces the better I like it. I have been quilting only 2 years so my self condidence is low. I am doing a quilt along now and I have almost given up twice due to the small pieces whereas I made a layer cake quilt and loved it!

  8. If I like the colour I usually like the pattern but once I've seen the quilt in a colour I don't like it loses its appeal

  9. I like very modern patterns but I am that shallow that if I don't like the fabric because its old fashioned I won't like the pattern. I realized this a few weeks ago when I decided not to do a monthly block because I didn't like it and then I saw it done in totally different fabric choices by somebody else and loved it.

  10. I like the clarity of the pattern. It has to be a clear design. The next thing is usually the color choice of the pattern. The color choice has to fit the pattern. It is also good to see color options. If they had a mini coloring sheet in there where you could color in your own quilt choice..that would be wonderful.

  11. the fabric I have on hand sometimes determines patterns as I may not have enough of it for certain designs. I like patterns that give a clear photo of what I'll be making. None of this draped quilt thing! what is the finished project going to look like? I also try to consider time and ease, etc. I do not like patterns that require a certain ruler unless I already have the ruler....

  12. Usually it's the color that first grabs me and makes me look closer, then I pay more attention to how well it suits the pattern and if two combined give me that "WOW, that's gorgeous" feeling.

  13. I suppose my first attraction is going to be the color.

  14. Love todays' topic question KarrieLynn, for me it is sometimes the color that speaks and other times it is the print that makes me grab it, take it home and then look for a pattern to do it justice. Have a great day!

  15. The pattern has to grab me, and it has to DO something. For example, I like my Swoon, but during the process, I learned tht I don't like quilts that are repeats of one big block. Not an insult to those who do - I just don't. I tend toward patterns that have, I suppose, more going on?

  16. Fabric choices for the quilt sway me.

  17. I like patterns that make you say "how did they do that?" or patterns that are balanced be between traditional and modern.
