Wow!! You guys like to vote huh? LOL!
460 of you took part in my poll and I can tell you that I got a kick out of your responses!!
Like myself, most of you are either bare footers or sock footers! I thought it was interesting that those that fit in this category thought that they'd be in the smaller group. Surprise!!! I feel the same way as most of you. I get WAY more control when I sew if I do not have shoes on. Actually, I can't sew with shoes on. It's like trying to tie your shoes with mittens on. It just doesn't work for me.
I really thought this was fun and I think a lot of you did too, so how about another poll? :D
Cast your vote, leave a comment ( I {heart} comments ) to explain your answer if you'd like and I will give you my vote and results next Thursday! :)
Have fun!!
Much Love!!!
I sew with the tv, or a movie, or music, or talking with a friend, that's why I say just let me sew.
ReplyDeleteI live alone and like to have some noise while I work. However, not something I really need to pay attention to. That's why I listen to a few radio stations thru my computer here in my workroom. Sometimes classical, sometimes not.
ReplyDeleteI need some kind of background noise going on - and usually that's a movie on my laptop!
ReplyDeleteI love silence! I very seldom turn on the radio or a cd. I love to stew things around in my head and see how them come out at my cutting table and sewing machine. Background noise definitely gets in the way of that process.
ReplyDeleteThese polls are fun!

When I am hand stitching I like to have a movie on for the background noise. However, when I am using my machine I prefer it quiet as my machine makes enough noise.
ReplyDeleteWell seeing how I have a noisy 4 year old running around 90% of the time it really doesnt matter what kind of noise there is. Sometimes is just her acting crazy, sometimes its NickJr on TV, sometimes it my radio, and sometimes its silence....except the last happens the least.
ReplyDeleteIt depends....when I am cutting out it has to be silence I have to concentrate 100% on following the instructions and cutting out the correct pieces, but when I am actually sewing a little bit of back ground music is good. Linda
ReplyDeleteI always have the radio on and it's always tuned to BBC Radio 4
ReplyDeleteGill
I wouldn't be able to watch a movie or sew it one or the other at least with music it background noise as mostly it the sound of the machine i hear lol
ReplyDeleteHugs Janice
interesting result...i am, too, one of the socks/bare feet sewers...
ReplyDeleteregarding this week's question: i can't stand the silence...i need some 'babbling' accompanying me...and as music makes me nervous after some minutes it's tv or an audio book for me (the latter is the preferred option, but there aren't many of those in my possession). ;)
If I'm just chain piecing or chain cutting (like lots of strips) where I don't have to pay much attention, I usually listen to audio books. The only other time I get to read is when I go to bed, and then I pretty much "pretend" to read until I wake up with the light on. If I'm reading a pattern or trying to follow directions (!), silence, please!
ReplyDeleteI like your polls...fun!
ReplyDeleteI tried to vote but it says I already have, I'm sure I haven't. But, anyhoo, I go with the flow and have on what usually suits the kids, kids shows on TV or silence if one is asleep. If I am home alone I like to put on a movie, usually Pride and Prejudice.
ReplyDeleteI love to listen to a book on my ipod while I sew. Because sewing is such a big hobby for me and I take every spare chance I get to sneak down to my sewing room I find I don't have a lot of time for other hobby's. Like reading :) So this way, I do both at the same time. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteI voted for "with music playing." I also like to watch movies or TV while I sew, but when I do that I notice that I tend to stop a lot to watch what is on when I should be sewing. Basically I need background noise doesn't really matter what it is.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Melissa. Audiobooks from Audible.com keep me company, and when I look at projects I've worked on, I remember the book I was reading at the time.
ReplyDeleteI usually watch a movie as I sew, but currently I am watching past seasons of Dexter. I must confess, that I don't get a whole lot of sewing done when watching the shows...BUT if it is crunch time..it is music so I don't have a visual distraction.. So I prefer the company of Movies..Dexter is a cutie! lol... I love the idea of listening to audiobooks! Now THAT is a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteI'll probably be in the minority again (must have shoes!), but I listen to talk radio online. I will replace it with Pandora Christmas music soon, though! Polls are fun:)
ReplyDeleteI love to listen to music while I sew, however, i often have to just say, whatever background noises there are (hubby's r/c cars, 3 year olds, 8 month olds, etc) Let me sew sew sew....Music though changes depending on what I am sewing and how fast I want to try and whip through it! (I know I should take my time, but this mommy's sewing time is very few and far between at times)
ReplyDeleteMuch Love and Giggles
Good question. It will be fun to see the results.
ReplyDeleteI listen to podcasts (mainly quilting podcasts) on my iPod.
ReplyDeleteI love to quilt with my iPod blasted waaaay up. If I tried sewing with the TV on I'm pretty sure I'd get nothing done, haha.
ReplyDeleteQuilting Rocks! (literally, hah)
I love to listen to audio books while I sew.
ReplyDeleteI can sew while most anything is going on thanks to my ipod. If I really need to focus & find my groove while sewing then the ipod is usually playing some Dave of some sort.
ReplyDeleteI voted for movie, but it is usually the tv that is on. (close enough) I will put on a recorded show in the living room and sew in the dining room. I have a few series that I have mostly lost interest in- so getting the general story line is fine for me.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not home alone, then whatever my love has on is fine. If I'm sewing while he is there, that means he is busy studying or something.
I'm a gamer as well as a quilter. I play online games like World of Warcraft, and when I'm waiting on people in the game, I've always got something sitting on my desk or lap that I'm stitching on.
ReplyDeleteI love to sew with the TV on. Football, movies, TV what ever. I might try books on tape sometime, too
ReplyDeleteI can have low music in the background unless I have a new pattern in front of me...then I might need complete silence to figure out cutting directions or if I am winging it...
ReplyDeleteOtherwise it's country music...
I listen to audio books on my iPod. I feel as if I'm twice as productive since I can "read" and sew at the same time! :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes it depends on what I am working on, what is on TV, or what time of year it is (Christmas on the radio) - but 90% of the time it is quiet or during conversations with the 5 year old.
ReplyDeleteI usually have the TV on but then sometimes I find myself sewing and suddenly realize that I'm working in complete silence and there is something so comforting about that.
ReplyDeleteShhhh, don't tell anyone. I prefer complete silence. But, of course I would seeing that I'm deaf! Ha! :-)
ReplyDeleteHeck, with two preschoolers and a little bundle on the way I will take any sewing time I can get. Anytime, anywhere:)
ReplyDeleteI listen to audio books. My two favorite things at the same time---sewing and reading--it doesn't get better than that. Of course, sometimes I need to have quiet if I really need to concentrate on something, but if I'm blanket stitching or piecing--no problem.
ReplyDeleteThe house could fall down around my ears, and it wouldn't be noticed if I could sew!!!
ReplyDeleteIn silence! Just dont like any kind of noise!!!
ReplyDeleteI like to sew in silence so I can relax and mull things over in my brain while the whirring of the sewing machine lulls my potential paranoid thoughts. And when measuring or piecing I have enough problems keeping things straight. I catch mistakes faster if I am quiet about it.
ReplyDeleteI have the tv playing in the next room...I wish I had one in my sewing room.. I may be a tv addict.
