Now now now.....not *that* kind of baby. Heh!
Remember yesterday when I said I did some shopping during my time off? Well Saturday I went shopping for a sewing machine.
Lemme 'splain...
This is my baby...my workhorse...
She's a Brother Innov-is 2500D. I've had her for almost 4 years now, which is funny for two reasons. One being that 4 years ago, I barely sewed anything compared to what I sew now. Secondly, I got this machine because not only was it an awesome sewing machine, but it also was an embroidery machine, a Disney edition. You ask what is so funny about that? The funny part is that I've not taken one lick of an embroidery stitch on it...LOL! Maybe someday I will, but for now, she's a quilting machine!
Wondering why I went shopping for another machine?
This is the only machine I have, which is not entirely a bad thing, but it is if it ever breaks or if I take it in for a cleaning and they have it for over a week and I have nothing to sew on! It's also not very ideal for classes or dragging to the Stitch ~n~ Bitch once a month because she weighs eleventy billion pounds! LOL!
So...I went shopping for a back up machine. I knew I didn't want anything fancy. I didn't need all the bells and whistles that my 2500D had. I just needed a basic machine that I could piece on.
Meet my little Brother.. hee hee ;)
I decided on the Innov-is 40 which also happens to be a Project Runway edition. I can guarantee you this is not why I chose this machine, I've never even watched the show. I got her because she was pink, of course! ;) Noooo...just kidding! I do like the pink but I chose her because she a Brother and everything I already have is interchangeable, which was important to me. I didn't want to have to purchase all new accessories. She's very light, coming in at only 14 pounds! Wayyyyy lighter than eleventy billion. ;) Another reason is that I already know the basics of how the Brother works, so less to learn, and the salesman gave me a FREE case to go with it, which saved me $30!! The other reason was that the difference between this machine and the least expensive one, was that this one has metal casings on the interior, which means it will last a LOT longer!! I'm secretly hoping I can get my daughter to start on this machine, so I wanted one she can lug around with her if need be. :D Ulterior motives..hahaha!
Well, there you have it...my babies! I love them both and I am so excited I will not have to lug my Big Brother up and down Sandi's stairs at our Stitch ~n~ Bitch anymore!! :D

Yay! Little Sister Brother is adorable, and she will be MUCH easier to lug up and down the stairs. Looks like you made a great choice. By the way - eleventy billion?!? Love it!

(but I'll be selling it to help pay for the new one), but for all the reasons you just described, I'm thinking of trying to talk him in to it! (maybe) cute machine. I saw those when I was shopping... they look like a great piecing machine. :)

ReplyDeleteI hope it works well for you! My old 'baby' machine that I was supposed to love was my Brother Innovis 2500D. Well..it started breaking. Lots of things. I don't understand why. So....I got rid of it and I'm using a very plain Singer (which isn't made very well...all plastic!) until I can get my Janome Horizon out of lay away. I used to be very Brother faithful, but the first time my 2500D broke it was under warranty thank goodness, and was in the shop 3 months!!!
ReplyDeleteA backup machine is a great idea! I am picking my baby up tomorrow from a 2 month stay at the mechanics....luckily my mum had a spare machine because I was having serious withdrawals after only a couple of days!
ReplyDeleteOh a backup machine is a must, it takes at least 10 days for servicing here so I could never last that long! LOL My back up is my old machine, unfortunatley eleventy billion poiunds heavier than my trusty Bernie! And if that fails, I drag my Juki off the quilting frame! You can never have too many backups imho! LOL Congrats on your new baby!
ReplyDeleteI bought the Innovis 1200D about 18 months ago (rarely use the embroidery feature) and I love it! I still have my 25 year old Kenmore for a backup. Enjoy your new baby!

ReplyDeleteWhat a smart idea! A travel machine - kind of like a travel guitar!! I totally agree with you about a backup machine - I have five! I really can't bear to let a machine go - I might need it! And truthfully, three of them are antiques and I wouldn't get rid of them anyway. But I think I'm going to give one of the others to a friend with no machine and a budding sewing jones.....

ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new baby! I have a little Brother as my back-up machine, too. The feet are interchangeable with my Janome. And I always schedule Janie the Janome's tune-up for when I'm on vacation. :)

ReplyDeleteI have two brothers also! My little brother is the same as yours only about 4yrs older, and big brother is a 900D. :-) I love my brothers, both of them!
ReplyDeleteI love your both your babies and your way of thinking about having the two machines. I did the same thing - bought an embroidery machine and did about three designs and it's quilted ever since. Then when it needed repair I bought another one (cheaper) so that I'd never be without a machine, because you know when your needs servicing or a fix, that's when you want to sew the most!! :0)

ReplyDeleteHow cute is that little brother!!! Looks more like a little sister to me! I have the Janome my mom bought me for my first sewing machine as my backup. I plan on keeping it because it is special to me and it will be Aliyas first sewing machine as well...if she chooses to sew with it. She already knows its hers :)
