Tidbit Tuesday #24

First off, I just want to thank all of you for your kind words to me yesterday. It was a really rough day but all of your thoughts, prayers, and kind words made it a little bit better. Thank you, you're the best bloggy friends ever! :D

Second off....I went and voted today. Three times, actually. I kept messing up my ballot and that darned machine wouldn't accept it! LOL! Finally on the third try it took it. The guy just laughed and said "here, you can have an extra sticker for your perseverance!". I said, "Hey, I should get three, since I voted three times!"...He laughed and handed me one more! Yes, I'm still a dork! :D

Third....I know you're here for today's tidbit! I don't have a sewing tidbit today but I do have one that I use a lot in the kitchen... when I cook.  I think this will come in handy for the up and coming holiday baking! :)

Ever run across those recipes that call for you to sift your flour or your powdered sugar, but you don't have a sifter so you just say oh well and carry on? Then you never actually pick up a sifter because they are big and bulky and hard to clean and you'll only ever use it once in a while anyway so you don't bother? You don't mind lumpy frosting anyway, right?
Well no more..... let me introduce you to my friends...

Whisks! Yep! These are Pampered Chefs but any ole whisk will do. Instead of sifting, just whisk the flour or the powdered sugar! Now don't go all crazy and make a mess, just carefully stir it and you will see it working!

It's pretty cool if I do say so myself! Besides, these are much cuter and much much easier to clean than a sifter. ;)

You wanna go try it don't you, just to see if it works. Go ahead...I'll wait.... ;)

See! Cool huh?

Now you can go dig out all those recipes that called for sifted ingredients and bake till your hearts content. :) Just don't forget to mail me some of those goodies!

Much Love!!!

  2. Great tip...I often use a fork as my whisk for this purpose. Yay for voting...I am sick today, but managed to drag myself to the polling station just for this purpose. Came home and crawled right back under a blanket. I suppose I can say I've done something productive today...and now blog hopping. :D

  3. I voted today and there was one candidate that was listed under two different parties. Not sure how that works.
Laughed when I read about your experience.
Thanks for the tip on sifting flour, never too old to learn something new.

  4. Tee hee. Glad I'm not the only one to improvise. I use um...I think it's a potato masher...but um...maybe it's for something else. It's curved like the letter U with a bunch of wires. I've never used it for anything but sifting.

  5. I do the exact same thing with a whisk when it calls for sifting. I never really understood those contraptions anyways - whisking it up to fluff it up makes more sense to me.

  6. I sifted this weekend! I'm a dork, too :)

I actually used a strainer/colander thingie. It works just the same as a real sifter.

  7. I'm a bigger dork ... I actually have one of those sifter things :) I think it makes a bigger mess than the wisk so I often use the wisk because if the girls see the sifter, they think it's play time.

  8. Lilli co-opted my sifter (she thinks it's a musical instrument!) so this tip will come in very handy!! Now I need to go bake..... ;-)
